Jasmine & Josh – Kinglake Forest Adventures

Newlyweds: Jasmine & Josh
Wedding date: 30th of November 2019
Theme of wedding: Forest/Relaxed

My best friend was organising a big share house in Fitzroy, at the last minute someone who was supposed to move in got fired and couldn’t afford the room anymore! One of the girls who was also moving into the house was friends with Josh and asked him to move in instead. So we met as friends and hung out quite a bit before we became involved romantically, which i think was a first for both of us and meant we had a great base from which to build our relationship.

our big vision?

We always wanted to have a really fun wedding!!  Something casual but really fun! So we had this idea of a venue somewhere where people could stay the night and to have it feel like a festival with a food truck, good music etc. it was also really important for us to have an outdoor ceremony as we spend a lot of time out in nature, ideally somewhere in the bush and for our beautiful 10 year old Labrador Maggie to be included if possible.

we found the one!

Our venue was incredible!! I think I googled “forest wedding, dog friendly” and Kinglake Forest Adventures was the first place that came up. We knew pretty much driving down turnoff to the venue that it would be the one for us – you drive through this gravel road surrounded on either side by tall gum trees with blackened tree trunks (from the black Saturday fires) and it just has this really powerful and special feeling. The ceremony space is incredible and we both feel so lucky to have been married there. When we met Michelle and Col, the venue owners really sealed the deal. We loved working with people who were genuinely invested in us having the time of our lives and also supporting people who are just getting into the wedding industry. They were so flexible and made the process of organising so easy and stress-free

our advice?

Remember that at the end of the day all that matters is that you are marrying the person you love in front of your family and friends – that really is the best part of the day!! Everything else falls into place, even if the details aren’t 100% how you imagined it. And come up with a plan B for bad weather!! It was forecast to be cold and raining for our wedding day, but we ended up having the most beautiful sunny afternoon. We bought a lots of clear umbrellas for guests to hold in case of a shower and that meant we would have been able to still hold our ceremony outside even if the weather wasn’t great

the best bits?

Getting married in front of our family and friends!! For Josh – seeing jasmine being walked down the aisle by her parents. For Jasmine – after sealing the deal, walking back down the aisle to “A crazy little thing called love” by Queen whilst getting confetti thrown at us was incredibly fun and a moment I’ll never forget!

side note!

We just had a really fun day and night!!! Having our friends stay the night at the wedding venue felt like one big sleep over and was such a highlight.

We also felt really blessed by the weather – we thought it was going to be raining and cold (14 degrees and rain was predicted despite getting married on the last day of spring!!) but we got the most beautiful sunshine through the forest trees as we got married and it was just incredible!

Also having Jasmine’s grandmother in attendance – she turned 91 the following day and it meant so much to have her there! The venue staff were incredible and organised a wheelchair and car to transport her between the ceremony site and the reception area. This was really touching and so important for us to have her there.
